The brief for this family Bach was very simple, two boxes please. One to live and one to lock up the toys. Our client did however want a New Zealand flavour which we achieved with simple, honest materials that will weather well on the exposed site. We listened and our response was to split the two distinct zones with a service pod in the middle. Making life, while on holiday at the beach, super functional and easy.

A semi-enclosed space offers shade from harsh westerlies along with privacy from neighbouring properties. Key structural decisions were made to allow full height joinery for emotional attachment to the site. A strong rythem of cladding detail contrasts sharply with the natural material and finish. It’s linear nature links the spaces and creates a sense of floating.
