Stanley Bach
The utility, shed and caravans had been great to the Stanley’s but they wanted something more permanent and pretty, but not too pretty. It had to be a Bach. They wandered through Teranui (just up the road) and fell in love with the space and number of bedrooms, so ATA were the chosen design team. A rear rectangular site in Pauanui with good aspect and gentle contour. As soon as you pull up your mood slides into ‘holiday’. Fully equipped with outside showers, beach stores, all-weather outdoor room, with fire pit and outdoor kitchen to come. The campground vibes continue with utilities coming off the laundry which is directly off the outside shower and gear-store area. Post beach and fishing wash-downs made easy.
Accolades
Don’t be fooled by the modest footprint. No frills open plan living wraps from east to west with the kitchen holding pole position. As well as four generous double rooms and a larger studio space for future additions. Raked ceilings provide volume with battens wrapping from inside the dining to outside connecting the spaces. Exterior battens mirror the inside ones perfectly. Steps, landings, decks and platforms wrap the Bach demarcating zones of shade, privacy and entertaining. Siberian Larch cladding and Garapa decking will silver with time alongside grey joinery and roof reflecting the sandy peninsula she sits on. The negative detail and vast joinery give the Stanley Bach a very robust and permanent rhythm. Inside the black-tinted OSB floor balances the warm plywood walls naturally.
The Stanley Bach took twelve weeks for the two brothers and a friend to build. Twelve weeks. Stanley’s panelised floor and walls, with RAB and cavity, combined with MetalCraft Thermospan were essential to the build speed. It took just over a week from consent to watertight (including set-out, excavation, piling, floor panels, wall panels and roof panels). Construction timelines this tight are only possible with prefabricated materials.
The Stanley Bach is no-frills but cleverly detailed and lacking nothing. A super speedy and cost-effective build made possible with prefabrication and ace people.
